About us.

Photo: Bride and Groom with 'best men' Hail and Storm |
We are Jenny and
Richard (Frankland) Mace, we met through our mutual love of dogs and the countryside
and after being together for 11 years we became Mr & Mrs on the 19th March 2005.
Jenny has owned the Affix PURBARN since the early 70’s when she had her first
Golden. Richard is a Gamekeeper and has always been a Spaniel man, but now owns
the Goldens in partnership with Jenny. |
Our Little Home
This photo was taken after we had been here just over
a
year.
The cottage was built in the
seventeenth century,
as you can see it is not big enough to house
all of our dogs and cats, as well as
us.
So we started building...

The Kennels
The kennel block
was
designed by me and built
by Rich,
his brother Pete and friend John.
The dogs were able to be kennelled in them after only two week-ends work
. There are
four
slightly smaller kennels for the Spaniels and
six larger
ones to house the Goldens.
We
have also had CCTV cameras installed so we can watch them every minute of
the day and night.

The Catteries
This again was
to my design and built by Rich and Pete who
did the main structure
whilst I
did all
of
the inside boxes. The
boxes
are raised off the floor for the cats to sleep in, each box has an
individual electric heat pad. Due to the space
constraints that we had,
we have
three
large
catteries and
another
slightly smaller one. The idea is that on nice days,
when we are around, the cats can be let out into the secure compound
which is
in front of the catteries.

A Little Bit About Judging
I did not start accepting Judging appointments until after my move to Wiltshire,
when I felt I was more competent and capable, but more importantly where I had
the time to devote to this side of my hobby. Prior to the Open Show rules being
changed I judged Goldens and all Gundogs including AVNSC and a Gundog Group. I
was very proud when my Group winner went on to take Best In Show. Also when I
moved to Wiltshire I learned a great deal about Whippets from an elderly
gentleman who was my landlord. This knowledge came in extremely useful for on
one occasion I was asked to stand in for a judge to judge Whippets, I was also
judging the Goldens. I was delighted when my chosen BP in Goldens went BPIS and
the BP in the Whippets took the RBPIS!
Soon after leaving Art College, which I sadly had to give up as a result of a
fall from my horse, I decided to train as a riding instructor and gained my BHSI
(British Horse Society Instructor). This is undoubtedly where my interest in
animal and dog movement began. After marriage and children I gave up the horses
and concentrated more on the dogs. It was when I move to Wiltshire, that I
decided to take up dog grooming, the skills I learned led to me being asked to
give a demonstration at a UK Golden Retriever Club Show Presentation Seminar.
This subsequently led to the ‘Grooming and Trimming the Golden Retriever’ video
and DVD which has sold extensively all over the world. I have now given talks
and demonstrations for many of the Golden Retriever Clubs and DeZynaDog. I have
also given demonstrations on this subject and Ring Craft whilst Judging in
Italy. I carried out my first Championship judging appointment in 2004 and have
been invited to Judge Golden Retrievers in Germany in 2007. I prefer not to
push myself forward for judging appointments, however I was thrilled and
honoured when invited to accept the appointment in Germany.
