Holly did not have a very good start in life after leaving her breeder, and had 2 homes before coming to us at 4 ½ years old. Her second owner had been given her as the first owners could not cope with her (basically because they had given her no training !) Her second owner was a friend who worked on a shoot that Rich and I also picked up on.

He showed me her pedigree papers and I told him ‘I wished someone would give me a bitch with breeding like that for nothing !’ Eventually he decided that he would like her to have a litter by our Hail. So I told him he would have to have the Eyes checked and the Hips scored and then if they were ok then we would look into the idea further.

We then moved away from the Cotswolds and we lost touch with each other, until August 2005, when out of the blue I got a phone call saying Holly was yet again looking for a new home and as I had said ‘I wish someone would give me a bitch with a pedigree like that, she could be mine if I wanted her.

So Holly came to live with us and it just shows what a wonderful breed the Golden Retriever is, as she fitted in with our lot as though she had been here all her life. It was decided if her eyes were still clear that we would try and have a litter from her as soon as she next came in season and we would use Hail, and the rest is history as they say !
