IN MEMORIAM

Bridie

‘Bridie’

 07/05/94  to  10/12/09

Bridie was our unregistered brown & white Working Springer. We had her father Brace till he was about 15 also. Rich had Sally my daughter on work experience when the time came to pick Bridie up from his cousin. Bridie was brought home at 7 weeks and sat on Sally’s lap and became quite attached to Sal, who not only fed her and played with her for the first week but also had to bath her as soon as she arrived. So Sally will miss Bridie almost as much as we do.

Jenny Wren

'Jenny Wren'

02/05/200 to 08/12/2009

Purbarn Forcast’s in the Fall
Junior Hunter & WCX

JW lived with her brother Quill [Canadian Champion Purbarn’s Forcast is Tranquil] and our very good friend Jean Deresienska in Boston, Massachusetts in the USA. From the time Jean came over and collected both Quill & Jenny Wren, Jean became very attached to JW who had that will to please which made her a very good working dog. She had been working on her Senior Hunter but after being diagnosed with Leukaemia about 6 months ago she had to cut down on the amount she was able to do with her. Eventually the Leukaemia got the better of her and she died peacefully at home.

 Purbarn Zipi Miss Minx

(Catcombe Cheshire at Millgreen x Fromeside Magic Night at Purbarn)

Only 5 days after we had to say goodbye to her mother ‘Magic’ we had to also say goodbye to Minx as well. Her quality of life was no longer what we would consider acceptable for a previously very active and alert girl, so to save her suffering she was given sleep and followed closely behind her mother over the rainbow bridge.

Like her mother she did more picking up on the shoots than she did showing. Although she did gain 1sts at Champ level and also did her SGWC, she was much happier in the shooting field than she was in the show ring. She loved to swim and if ever I was going on a shoot where I knew there was likely to be birds landing on water I would always make sure Minx had a rest day the day before so she could come with me.

Her claim to fame was being the mother of South African Champion Purbarn Hailing Hard, also Canadian Champion Purbarn’s Forcast is Tranquil + our own Purbarn Hail in the Storm 2 CC’s, SGWC he was also the winner of the Best Gamekeepers Dog in Show at Crufts 3 times.

06/01/1995 - 11/07/2009

Fromeside Magic Night at Purbarn

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the sad news of Magic’s passing.

She was Alfa Bitch to the end and only a few hours before we had to say good bye she had set the whole pack off galloping down the field to tell someone with a horse that this was her field and they had no right to be in her field ! But it may have been just that exertion that was her down fall, as soon after she was showing signs of distress and it was at that point we decided to seek the Vets advice, but I knew in my heart of hearts this was the end of a great life for her. She had been on borrowed time for over a year with mass cell tumours and she had lumps and bumps all over her which periodically burst and we kept the biggest of these covered with a very fetching tee-shirt. She probably had others we did not know about internally, which may have been the cause of her final problems. So it was decided that at her age we were not going to go down the rout of putting her under GA and opening her up just to have confirmed what was very probably the problem that the dreaded Cancer had taken over !

At 14 ½ we felt she had had a good life and deserved to go with dignity !

She lived life to the full always and although she was not shown till she was in veteran classes, due to an accident to her head at the tender age of 12 weeks, which left her with a bump on her forehead caused by osteomyelitis of the scull and blocked both her tear ducts, leaving her also with tear stains, but  she was a great working bitch and was part of my picking up team for most of her life and we only retired her about 2 seasons ago from full time working although she did do a couple of drives in the afternoon on the odd fine day during the 2007/08 season.

Magic had her own way of cooling off on hot days when out picking up or just out on a walk, hence why she was sometimes known as Black Magic !

When we did decide to take her to a few Breed Club shows she always did well and took quite a few Best Veterans or Best Veteran Bitch awards both at Open and Championship level. Although her head was not her fortune her conformation, forever wagging tail and her movement made up for it. Her last Show was September 2008 at ECGRC Champ, where she took 2nd behind a very much younger bitch. But many commented on how well and soundly she moved even at well over 13 years.

Her final resting place is next to her ½ brother Storm [our late Champion] who we lost almost a year ago in August 2008.

Magic your memory will live on in your descendants, so we will never forget you!

Ch Purbarn Xtra Thunderstorm

We had to say farewell to our Dear Storm. He would have been 14 on the 7th September so did not quite make the grand old age of 14 years. His heart was still strong, but sadly his kidneys were not. But his memories are great and he leaves us with children following in his paw prints with  ‘P’ Hail In The Storm 2CC’s & SGWC,  ‘P’ Gales N’ Golden Rain 2CC's, 1 RCC, JW  Sh CM & SGWC + ‘P’ Another Confusion who is also Rains Grandmother. There are others overseas including a South African Champion who is Hails brother and a German Champion daughter. He will probably be remembered by most round the show ring for the jumping he did in the show ring at the end of the triangle. But for us and those who knew him outside the ring he will be remembered most for being not only our Champion in every way possible, but also the most wonderful companion both in the shooting field and also in our home

Rizer

‘Rizer’

28/03/1997 - 01/05/08
Margelite Risen Shine
Colour: Blue Colour-Point

Rizer joined us at about 14 weeks and has become the founder member of the Trevacat Ragdolls and our Stud Tom. At the present time [2006] he is our oldest member.

Rizer started off living in Devizes with Jenny and her daughter Sally, but as Rizer was more Sally’s cat, when Sal went to work for a Cattery and Kennels Rizer went too. Jenny missed him so much that she decided to get another one.

Rizer has sired many litters and is a wonderful Stud Cat, who produces many of his qualities in his offspring. He often spends time in the house with the dogs and has never sprayed in the house, which is nice as it means we can have him in without fear of nasty smells.

Brace

'Brace'

1991 - Jan 2007

Sadly we lost Brace in January of 2007 we never knew his actual dob but he was certainly well over 16yrs old.  We have Brace's daughter Bridie now 13yrs old and his grandson Truffle as well as our countless memories of him.

Rosaceae Ideal Forecast at Purbarn
Hip Score 4:6 - 10

Sadly we lost Deal suddenly in September 2006 at the age of eight.

Deal was a Storm Grandson and was bought from Jean Cotterell and as I had been responsible for driving up to County Durham for the mating, I reached a deal with Jean that if there was a show quality dog in the litter I could have the pick of the dogs.

Deal joined the pack at 10 weeks and had a very successful show career during which he gained a 1st at Crufts in Under Graduate under Jean Burnett in 2000, then in 2003 we found he had gone infertile at a very young age.  So as we had other dogs to show we decided to stop showing him. But he was a very good picking up dog and probably was one of my best behaved out on the shoots.

Deals claim to fame was having been the sire of Canadian Champion Purbarn Forecast Is Tranquil and also father to Ch Catcombe Corblimey who took the CC at Crufts two years running in 2007 and 2008

'Razz'

1989 - 2005

 Purbarn Razzle Dazzle

Razz was born in Hertfordshire by Catcombe Cheshire at Millgreen X Purbarn Kizzie Ina Tizzie.  He was a great character and having been part of the family for so long he is sadly missed and has left a big hole in the Purbarn Pack.   He was not only a great dog in the shooting field and part of my picking up team for many years, he also was a good show dog and did a lot of winning, although he missed his JW by one point he did win many BOB’s and BIS wins at Open Shows. He took BIS at both GRCW & also SWGRC among others. He won many 1sts at Championship Shows and enjoyed all his outings to Crufts over the years.

Misty

25/09/2002 - 28/02/2005

Trevacat Autumnal Mist

Colour; Blue Mitted Colour-Point

Misty was the first kitten I kept from Tina. I wanted a Mitted Queen and used Margaret Groves Stud Tom called Margelite Cosma Blip who was a Seal Mitted Colour-Point.  Misty was the only Mitted Queen in the litter and as luck would have it she was also the best kitten in the litter.  Sadly her life with was not a long one and shortly after having a litter she ended up with an infection, which got into her kidneys and she had to be put to sleep to save her from suffering.  She is greatly missed as she had a wonderful character and very typical of the breed.

Bib

25/12/1986 - 06/07/2002

Bring Um On Bib

Bib was probably the most influential of our Spaniels, a Black pure bred Working Coker, who we sadly lost at 15 ½ years old in July 2002

Ellie

'Ellie'

18/01/1994 - 15/07/2001

Ellie joined us at just under 3 years old after her owner (an ex boss of Jenny’s) could not cope with her constant phantom pregnancies any longer. She was in season at the time, so as Jenny had known Rich had always wanted a Bib baby ( Bib being his, at the time 10 year old Pure bred Working Cocker, (KC name ‘Bring Um On Bib’) it was decided to let Bib have his first chance of producing babies. Bless him After trying every position possible Ellie helped him sort it out and the rest is history.

Ellie’s first litter of Cocsux, of which 4 were Black like Dad and 4 were Chocolate like Mum were born in April 1997. We kept one of the Chocolate ones which is Tucker, he was the start to our pack of Chocolate Drops. We sadly lost Ellie with Cancer aged 8 in Aug 2001. But she had 1 litter each year by Bib and eventually decided to have her 4th litter by Bib’s pure bred Working Cocker son, namely ‘Bandit’  (his mums name was Amerdown Crisp).

Sky

'Sky'

- 1997

Sadly we lost Sky in 1997. But found we could not live without a Ragdoll, so the Ragdolls became Jenny’s second hobby and the amount of Ragdolls continues to grow, although we have no intention of gaining as many Ragdolls as we have Goldens and Spaniels.

Sky was our first Ragdoll and how we first fell in love with this wonderful breed. He was a gift from an ex boss of mine and was given to my daughter Sally. He taught us a lot about the breed and one thing above all was that these are not Street Wise Cats and we now stipulate that Trevacat Ragdolls are sold on the strict understanding that they are kept safe inside or have secure runs in which to play and get fresh air

This was Richard’s first attempt at poetry done just for Thunder:

Here lies my old mate Thunder,
He would retrieve all asunder,
I used to call him my peg dog,
But when I fired my gun he would look agog,
And away to Jenny he would go,
With my shooting peg in tow !

Fee was a very special little girl, the upper photo opposite was taken when she was 13 years and three months old!.  The highlight of her show career was undoubtedly at the NWGRC Championship Show where under Hilda James, four weeks short of her 13th birthday, she won Veteran Bitch and to our eternal delight was given the RCC.

The other photo of Fee shows her doing what she liked doing best!
