Hayjoy Holly And The Ivy At Purbarn
DoB 24 / 11 / 2000
Hip Score 5 : 4 = 9
Holly was almost four and half years old when she joined the Purbarn Pack, she had already been through 2 homes through no fault of her own. Her second owner, a shooting friend of ours had been given her as the first ones could not cope with her. When Ray showed me her KC papers I said I wish someone would give me a bitch with a pedigree like that for nothing ! Ray asked if I thought he should breed from her ? I told him he needed to get all her health checks done first, which he did and all was fine. He said he would like to use our Hail.
We then got made redundant and moved away from the Cotswold's to Worcestershire and lost touch with Ray and Holly.
In 2005 out of the blue we got a phone call from Ray saying that his health was not good and he did not feel he would be able to cope with rearing a litter from Holly and as I had said 'I wish someone would give me a bitch with a pedigree like that for nothing' if I would like her I could have her.
Well she joined the pack and it just goes to show what good temperaments Holly and our lot have as they excepted her as part of their pack and she accepted them with not problems at all. But Holly was the only dog I have ever threatened to put an electric collar on ! I never did, but she would get 10ft from you look over her shoulder at you when you called her name then stick up 2 paws and take off at breakneck speed ! Luckily in those days we lived in the middle of a very large sheep fenced field and eventually she would come back, but only when she wanted too, particularly if you started up the car, she loved the car !
Holly in whelp and untrimmed. Holly was a very good mother and has made her mark on the Purbarn Pack.
We did mate her to Hail at her first season after she came to live with us and we gave one of the puppies back to Ray Namely Misty [Purbarn Orange Morning Mist]. I showed Misty for Ray a few times and she qualified for Crufts at her first Champ Show outing. Also from that litter Chris & Maria Eels had Sky [Purbarn Orange Night Sky], who not only has done well in the Show Ring but also has won 2 Working Tests and Chris hopes to Start Field Trialing him during the 2010/2011 Shooting Season. 3 others from the same litter went overseas 1 to Italy and 2 to Germany.
Holly had 1 litter by our Hail. We then mated her to Finn [Ch Captain Finn at Steval] from which we kept a dog, namely Drizzle [Purbarn Persistent Drizzle]. We then planed to have just one more litter from her and keep a bitch, so we mated her to our Rain but sadly she just had 2, both boys one of which did not survive. So we decided to ask the KC for an extension and tried using Rain's son Baz [Stormerick Don Sebastian]. But again Holly only had 2, but at least this time one was a bitch. The plan was as both were lovley puppies we would keep them both. But it seemed we were not meant to have a bitch from Holly as the bitch pulled a couple of teeth out of alignment, so went to live with friends and we kept Twister [Purbarn Under A Twister]. So we ended up with 2 boys from Holly, but sadly no bitches.
Holly has now retired from maternal duties, and I plan to get her out on the Shoot during the 2010/2011 season.
