At the moment at Purbarn we have 2 Golden Stud dogs and one Chocolate Drop Working Spaniel.

Stud Dog Services
If someone is interested in one of our boys services, or just finding out a bit more about them then we strongly recommend a visit here to see what their temperaments etc: are like at home as well as either seeing them in the show ring or out working on the Shoot.
We expect to be able to see the bitches KC Pedigree & Registration document [if it is one of the Goldens you want to use] this would also include all relevant up to date health check paper work.
Stud fees are different depending on which dog you wish to use and can be discussed at any time either through e-mail, by phone or face to face. The maximum we charge is £650 so even if a handling fee is paid the final amount is never more than £650 however many puppies you end up with or however many times we mate the bitch on that particular season.
Our Golden Stud dogs have proved that they are producing good bone structure, melting expressions and sound temperaments + the enthusiasm to work as gundogs or become PAT dogs, where they need to be calm among both the old and the ill.
Our Chocolate Drop Spaniel, ‘Truffle’ is a working gundog and is a very happy friendly fellow, most of his siblings went to either working and/or pet homes, where they are a credit to their parents ‘Tucker’ & ‘Bridie’ and also their owners.
The poem below says it all and it does take Two To tango, but we hope if you decide to use one of our Boys you will be as pleased with the litter as we are with litters whelped here either using one of our own Boys or an outside Stud Dog. But please remember that there can be no guarantees in dog breeding. We have carefully taken every care in the husbandry of our Stud Dogs to hopefully ensure that your bitch will whelp a healthy litter of puppies. However, although not common sometimes problems can occur. Good management of your pregnant bitch and the support of a knowledgeable breeder and/or vet, that you have great faith and trust in is essential. We also do recommend the books:-

Dog Breeding – The Theory & the Practice. By Frank Jackson. Published by Crowwood.
Wherever you go be it here or elsewhere for your chosen Stud Dog enjoy your litter be it 1 or 13 and give them all the best attention, socialisation and food that you can to rear the best possible litter.
But most of all vet every prospective new owner as if you were going to let them have your most precious living thing, so you can have a clear conscience that your precious puppy that you have reared and lovingly taken care of for 7 to 8 weeks will live a long happy and healthy life in just that one loving home.

LAMENT OF A STUD DOG
My job is making puppies
And I get two tries at that,
They pat me on the head and say “Good Boy”
And that is that.
It’s half my job to give ‘em
Teeth and toplines, fronts and other
Remember, it’s only half my job….
They also have a mother.
It’s not my job to carry pups
And make ‘em grow and nurse ‘em,
And feed and clean and make ‘em strong
That’s for “mother” and a person.
It’s not my job to wean
And feed calcium and food,
And stack and gate and housebreak
And make ‘em a “showing” brood.
It’s not my job to plan the breeding
And learn what produces well,
To study pedigrees, learn what’s there
And pick out those to sell.
It’s not my job to guarantee champs,
The breeder picks the pair,
To mate and whelp and feed and show
And hope that the champ is there.
It’s not my job to be on hand
When points are given out.
The breeder, owner, dam and friends
Take credit with a shout.
It’s not my job to deliver a winner,
It’s only genes I sell.
But let the puppies turn out bad,
And guess who catches HELL!
